OrganicTragets4EU
Objectives of the project
The Farm to Fork Strategy and the Biodiversity Strategy, as part of the European Green Deal, aim to ensure a fair, healthy, and environmentally friendly food system within the European Union (EU). Both strategies recognize the critical role of organic farming and organic aquaculture in achieving this goal. With the European Green Deal, the Farm-to-Fork Strategy, and the Biodiversity Strategy, the EU has set the following targets:
- 25% of agricultural land to be farmed organically
- A significant increase in organic aquaculture

Role of the LKÖ
The Austrian Chamber of Agriculture (LK Österreich) supports the Chamber of Agriculture in Lower Austria (LK-NÖ). LK-NÖ coordinates the organization of multi-stakeholder workshops to qualitatively and quantitatively characterize the existing (2020) organic farm structures and their potential development up to 2030. The goal is to cover 5 sectors (arable farming, permanent crops, dairy farming, pork production, aquaculture). Each sector will be assessed in two countries to enable comparisons. For preparation, LK-NÖ and practice partners will collect public data and conduct expert interviews. A detailed typology for 2020 will be created, along with a draft typology for 2030, which will be based on two scenarios (the most plausible and the most desirable). These will be evaluated in workshops and supplemented with the business concepts from work package 5.
